TORONTO, ON - April 2001 - Confluent Technologies Inc., creator of the popular dual-platform SMIL authoring tool, Fluition, has released Fluition API Edition for Windows.

The Fluition API Edition is an easy to implement component library that allows you to integrate SMIL code construction into almost any application. Fluition API Edition is an ActiveX Dynamic Link Library (ActiveX DLL) that can be used in any application development environment that supports ActiveX controls. The Fluition DLL makes it easy to incorporate SMIL functionality into a vast array of rich-media applications.

The Fluition API is the first SMIL API on the market and represents the progress SMIL is making as the standard for interactive streaming media presentations. "The Fluition API was developed due to the numerous requests for integrating SMIL functionality into customized applications relating to Streaming media, Interactive TV and DVD," states Steven Dryall, President and CTO of Confluent Technologies Inc. Fluition allows you to combine streaming video with slides, insert hot-spots into streaming video files, present multiple media files in one streaming media presentation for video-on-demand and distance learning applications. The SMIL code generating functionality of Fluition is now available as an API for database integration and server development.

SMIL, Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language, is the W3C recommended standard for Internet based multimedia presentations.
