The Fluition API takes the engine from Fluition to allow Confluent Technologies to create back-end server solutions that will create dynamic interactive media presentations on the fly. The Fluition API will also be incorporated into other media applications and technologies to allow for an interactive media development component to other development tools or rich-media applications.

Confluent Technologies, in co-operation with Ryerson University and a Canadian National Television Broadcast corporation worked together to create the first interactive digital television trials in Canada. Using SMIL over IP as well as combination of Satellite and Terrestrial broadcast for broadcasting and request processing, Confluent Technologies brings new ideas and innovative solutions to interactive tv.
SMIL and interactive media over the Internet will naturally progress to interactive television over digital networks to set-top boxes.

Kiosks

Confluent Technologies is currently developing and implementing "soft kiosks" for companies in Toronto. The kiosks will be comprised of in-store display computers featuring the Confluent Technologies full-screen customized media player along with interactive media content displaying vendor and company content in an immersive interactive presentation. The media presentations featured on the kiosks in-store are also transferable to the Web in streaming format, allowing for an excellent "bricks and clicks" media solution. The in-store kiosk eliminates the streaming aspect of this type of media delivery taking away the need for bandwidth considerations.
Confluent Technologies is developing our kiosk solutions for automotive dealerships, computer retail companies, and other related retail companies where there is marketing potential to capture the customers interest and educate that customer about products or promotions in an immersive kiosk presentation.

SIL (SMIL Insertion List) Specification

| Confluent Technologies has developed an XML bridge for linking NLE (Non-Linear Editing) solutions and other applications to Fluition. The SIL format will allow NLEs or other applications to export media files along with a text file that Fluition will read and import into the Fluition environment for adding interactivity and sequencing of media with additional media elements.
